Cover crops and tillage effects on carbon–nitrogen pools: A lysimeter study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cover crops (CCs) and tillage practices influence C N pools in soil, which can affect dissolved organic (DOC) leaching from agricultural fields. Previous studies on cover have focused mostly nitrate total (TC). Therefore, a study was conducted southern Illinois 2015 to 2018 evaluate the effects of systems (conventional till [CT] no-tillage [NT]) CCs including water-extractable (WEC), permanganate oxidizable (POXC), TC, (WEN), (TN) soil TN DOC collected with zero-tension lysimeters. Crop rotations included were corn (Zea mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] rotation without winter CC (C–S), corn–cereal rye (Secale cereale L.)–soybean–hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) (C–R–S–HV), rye–soybean–oat + radish (Avena sativa L.+ Raphanus sativus L.) (C–R–S–OR). The WEC decreased over time under CT system at depth 0–15 cm C–R–S–OR having cereal oat CCs. POXC depths 15–30 30–45 increased significantly fall spring for all both systems. cumulative greater C–R–S–HV than C–S 2018. Inclusion reduced compared no Increased losses introduction should be addressed need further evaluation its impact cycling surface subsurface waters.

Tillage, cover crops, and nitrogen fertilization effects on soil nitrogen and cotton and sorghum yields
Sustainable soil and crop management practices that reduce soil erosion and nitrogen (N) leaching, conserve soil organic matter, and optimize otton and sorghum yields still remain a challenge. We examined the influence of three tillage practices (no-till, strip till and chisel till), four cover rops {legume [hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth)], nonlegume [rye (Secaele cereale L.)], vetch/rye bicu...

Soybean field experiments were performed to investigate the weed-suppressing effects of different tillage systems and cover crop mulches at two locations in southwest Germany during 2014 and 2015. The influence of three different tillage systems on weed control efficacy, soybean plant density, and crop yield was determined. In the no-till system (NT), two different cover crops, (rye and barley)...

In fall 2000, an on-farm sustainable agricultural research project was established for cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., in Tift County, Georgia. The objective of our 2-yr research project was to determine the impact of several cover crops on pest and predator insects in cotton. The five cover crop treatments included 1) cereal rye, Secale cereale L., a standard grass cover crop; 2) crimson clover...
